The Red Devils are in urgent need of an attacking overhaul after scoring just 37 goals in 31 Premier League games, the sixth-worst haul in the league.

United’s technical director Jason Wilcox knows Delap from their time together at City, although they still face fierce competition for the England Under-21 striker.

Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs chasing him and there is strong interest from several clubs abroad.

Osimhen is one of the alternative targets and United could sell Alejandro Garnacho to Napoli as part of a deal to sign the Nigeria striker from the Italians or even use Rasmus Hojlund as a makeweight. The Dane played in Serie A before moving to Old Trafford from Atalanta. 

The 22-year-old is one of the few Ipswich players to shine, having already scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season. He has a release clause of around £40m should Ipswich get relegated.

His hot form has attracted interest from a number of big clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester City, who have buy-back options of around £30m, as he was a product of City’s academy.

However, United have him on their list of forwards, which also includes Viktor Yökeres, Viktor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. The
